Located in Port Talbot, Wales, the new Aberavon Leisure & Fitness Centre is a replacement for the previous, much loved, Lido that was destroyed by a fire in 2009.
It consists of a 25m x 17m main pool with a split length moving floor and boom, and a 17m x 8.5m learner pool which includes a children’s slide and water cannon feature. Other facilities include a large multi sports hall, spin room and dance studio.
B+W were responsible for the design & specification of the system as part of the design team contracted by Corban Developments, who had been awarded the redevelopment by Neath & Port Talbot Council.
Each pool has its own dedicated water treatment and filtration system based on medium rate sand filtration with chlorine disinfection, pH correction and UV sterilisation.
B+W also secured the supply, installation and commissioning of the associated filtration and water treatment plant and moving floor by competitive tender to the selected construction contractor Heron Brothers. This is Barr + Wray’s first project with Heron Bros Ltd and it has been a great success.
