The MAGNA Science Adventure Centre, Rotherham
Completed – September 2008
The MAGNA Centre is the UK's first Science Adventure Centre located in the former Templeborough Steelworks, South Yorkshire. At over 150ft in height and one third of a mile long, this £46m Millennium Commission project consists of four stunning pavilions themed around the four elements- Earth, Air, Fire and Water.
The water pavilion is a steel, wave-like structure containing numerous interactive water displays, water falls and water canons. It is imperative that water quality is maintained to guarantee performance of the exhibits and safeguard the health and safety of the public.
Water is circulated through the exhibits and then collected in an underground tank. Clarity and quality of the circulating water is ensured by continuous filtration using multimedia filtration vessels fitted with an automatic backwash facility. Monitoring chlorine levels and dosing chemical disinfectant to prevent bacterial growth, ensures that the water is safe for public use.
Following the successful installation of the B+W treatment system in 2008, thousands of customers have enjoyed these stunning exhibits in one of Britain's top tourist attractions.
