Sport + Leisure Liverpool Aquatics Centre ![]() CLIENT: Liverpool City Council MAIN CONTRACTOR: Gleeson ARCHITECT: S + P Architects COMPLETION: March 2008 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The £17M Aquatics Centre has opened its doors in the Wavertree district of Liverpool. The centre incorporates a 51m x 17m pool with movable floor and moveable boom, 20m x 9m learner pool with moveable floor and spectator seating for 400 people enabling the centre to host major swimming championships. A plaque will be installed at the complex to celebrate the introduction of swimming lessons in Wavertree around the early 1900’s. A local swimmer began these sessions to assist in the prevention of drowning in the River Mersey and Leeds-Liverpool Canal which at that time were B + W was responsible for the design, supply, installation and commissioning of the Main and Learner Pool Filtration and Water Treatment plants. The Centre opened its doors to the public on Saturday 15th March 2008. |
